THE TRUST OF GOD (IX): Patience in Waiting on God

“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him”. God is the everlasting God, the LORD, and the creator of the ends of the earth; He does not faint as men do nor is he weary; and His understanding is unsearchable. We must therefore patiently seek his help and power. (Lamentations 3:25; Isaiah 40:28).

2.1 SUBMIT YOUR POWERS TO GOD

To ‘wait patiently on the Lord’ is a call to submit ALL our human power, control and help unto the Lord.  It means we should forego every fleshy or physical ‘weapons’ and ‘powers’ we may possess and seek God’s help and power in all things. Such weapons may include one’s pride, money, status, unforgiveness, anger, lies, revenge, slander, backbiting, swearing, reproaching others, sowing discord, judging and so on. (Psalm 15:3-5 & 44:6). God does not act on our cause when we are wielding these powers and controls.

But when we release all our fleshy power and wait on Him in patience he will be gracious unto us because we have exalted Him that he may have mercy upon us. He will be our strength and will deliver us in time of distress. “For the LORD is a God of judgment” who will bless all those that wait for him. (Isaiah 30:18; Isaiah 33:2).

2.2.   GOD RENEWS OUR STRENGTH IN WAITING

Brethren, it is God that gives power to the weak; and increases the strength of those who have no might. Therefore, when His Ministers wait in patience for Him to fight for them, He can renew their strength and elevate them with wings as eagles; and He will give them resilience not to be weary in their faith when things are heated, nor to faint in their walk-in faith. (Isaiah 40: 29-31).

Also, when we cede our own strength for God’s, he will permit no man to oppress us and will rebuke rulers for our sake in keeping with his promise saying “touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm. (Psalm 105:14-15). But to those who place their trust in vanity God warns saying: “woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because [they are] many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!” (Isaiah 31:1).
