From the inception of mankind, God has a desire that there should be mutuality of trust between man and God to ensure the enjoyment of a perfect relationship.
In trust God created man and woman in his image and likeness and gave them dominion over all his creation on the earth. (Genesis 1:26-28) .He desired also to trust mankind so he gave the first commandment to Adam that he may eat freely of every tree of the garden ” but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it…”(Genesis 2:16-17)
It is clear that with power of dominion entrusted to man, comes the responsibility of the trust placed upon him to obey God’s word. But Adam and Eve broke the trust that God placed in them, by desiring and eating of the tree that was forbidden of them leading to their down fall (Genesis 3:6 &11;16-19 &23)
In spite of the breach of trust by Adam and Eve, God continued to require that mankind should trust in him and in turn He desires to trust us in a mutual relationship. In this sense, we see the Almighty God consistently binding himself in a covenant or trust relationship with mankind from Noah, to Abraham, and the children of Israel, and with King David (see generally Genesis 9:8-17; and 17:2-8 and 10-13; Exodus 6:7; 2 Samuel 7:4–17; Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10; Hebrews 11:7).
So important is trust in the relationship God sought with mankind that in His promise “because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself”, holding himself by a standard no less than what he expected of his creation. That we might have trust and consolation in him since it is impossible for God to lie. (Hebrew 6:13-18; Genesis 22:16; Isaiah 45:23). It is common for people to agree that they trust in God. Let us examine the standard of trust that one need place in the Lord.
