Jesus came to a certain village where ten lepers stood afar off. The lepers cried to him saying “Master, have mercy on us”. When Jesus saw them he told them to “go show [themselves] to the priests”. As they went on their way they were cleansed (Luke 17:12-14). The “Samaritan” leper was among the ten cleansed (Luke 17:16). Let us consider his faith expression.
When the “[Samaritan leper] saw that he was healed, [he] turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God”. In humble faith, he “fell down on his face at [Jesus’] feet, giving him thanks”. Jesus asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” (Luke 17:15-18). He then said to the Leper “arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole” (Luke 17:19).
The faith of the cleansed leper would manifest in situations where a person of another religious belief, receives healing or relief from societal exclusion through the grace and power of Jesus Christ, and decides to turn back from his/her belief to serve the faith of Jesus Christ.
