EXPRESSIONS OF FAITH III :Faith in Challenge

Jehoshaphat king of Judah was attacked by the armies of three nations – Moab, Ammon, and Syria. When the king was told about the “great multitude” that was coming up against him, he “feared, and set himself to seek the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:1-3). How did the King express his faith in this challenge?

He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah and gathered all the people in the house of the LORD “to ask help of the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:4-5). He prayed to God asking him to remember his covenant with Abraham and protect their inheritance in the land from the enemies. He rests his faith in God saying ” we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee” (2 Chronicles 20:6-12). After the prayers, God assured him that “[he] shall not need to fight in this battle … [and to] stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with [him] …” (2 Chronicles 20:17).

“The king and his people fell before the LORD and worshiped Him (2 Chronicles 20: 17-20). He also appointed singers unto the Lord to raise praises for the Lord. “And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against [the invaders]; and they were smitten”. The enemies turned on each other, destroyed themselves, and Judah collected the abundant riches of the spoils (2 Chronicles 20:22-25).

Jehoshaphat’s faith would manifest in situations where one faces threats and intimidation from others in relation to your home, property, job, business or other interests and especially in cases where one is in leadership roles.
