A key character of lies is the motive to oppose or discredit the ‘Spirit of Truth’, that is of God (Genesis 3:1 & 4). When we say, ‘the devil is a liar’ and you tell lies, you are serving Satan, the ‘Spirit of Lies’. (John 8:44; Psalm 58:3-4). Therefore, whenever you feel the need to tell a lie, remember that you are opposing Truth. A lie and the truth cannot co-exist!
The character of lies is such that once you tell a lie, you will require to tell another lie to hide that lie or to back it up. This is because only a lie can cover a lie. Truth can never cover a lie, nor does it need cover to hide it, back it up, or validate it. “He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit”. So only those who speak the truth from their heart can dwell with God. (Proverbs 12:17; Psalm 15:2). “…All liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
