INTRODUCTION
The series on Precious Trials of Faith sought to aid our understanding on the nature of faith trials, the ways in which God may test faith, and how we might overcome them to enhance our spiritual growth. In six parts we have examined faith trials in Christ’s ministry, discipleship for the gospel, for righteousness sake, for salvation and relationship, and trials for chastisement and correction.
It has presented examples of faith trials including: the ‘furnace of affliction’ which breaks one in the flesh and the spirit; the trial involving the worship of other gods or restraints from worshiping the Almighty God; trials where one’s way may be ‘hedged with thorns’, material things curtailed and loved ones abandon you for salvation; trials entailing persecution including by family relations, worldly rulers and spiritual wickedness; and chastening trials to correct transgressions, rebellion, or prideful conduct against the purpose of God.
This message concludes the series by explaining how we can take to enhance faith through trials. It focuses on “faith” as the target of attack in trials and the force that can overcome it. Here we emphasize its spiritual aspects and identifies ‘faith enhancing tools’ including the word of God, His power in the Holy Spirit, and the Grace of God through Jesus Christ. It also cautions actions we may not take during trials.
1. FAITH OVERCOMES TRIALS
